It Started With One Question: Why is soda so boring?

For something that’s supposed to be fun, fizzy and full of flavour, most drinks had somehow become… safe. Predictable. Beige.

But soda was never meant to be boring, it was meant to be colourful, Curious… A little bit ridiculous. We thought soda deserved better. So we decided to create something different and bring the fun back.

What if soda could be playful again?

Not just another drink with a slightly different flavour, but something colourful, unexpected and full of personality.
The kind of drink that makes people stop, smile, and say: “Wait… what flavour is that?”
Bubblegum. Candy cane. Orange marmalade and the Never Ending Gobsmacker. Flavours that might sound a little ridiculous until you taste them.
Think a candy shop crossed with a mad soda inventor’s workshop, where strange flavour experiments somehow turn into brilliant drinks.

POPZ is about bringing fun back into fizzy drinks.

Two People. One Slightly Ridiculous Idea.

POPZ was created by Quentin and Megan, who between them have spent years building brands, designing products and working with some of the most exciting companies around. But this time we didn’t want to build a brand for someone else. We wanted to build one for ourselves.

This wasn’t a project for a client – This was an idea we couldn’t stop thinking about. Something bold. Something colourful. Something that felt like it belonged in the hands of people who love discovering things that are a little bit different. A soda brand that felt playful, colourful and full of personality – the kind of brand we wished existed.

So we decided to make it ourselves – POPZ is that idea brought to life.

There are plenty of drinks trying to be serious. We’re not one of them.

POPZ is about flavour, colour and curiosity. About cracking open a can and discovering something unexpected. About drinks that are as fun to talk about as they are to drink.

POPZ is about curiosity, trying something new and discovering flavours you didn’t know you needed.

Somewhere behind the scenes (and possibly behind a door marked “Do Not Enter Unless Curious”) sits the POPZ Laboratory. This is where our flavours begin.

Not fully formed.
Not perfectly balanced.
But as ideas — sometimes brilliant, sometimes ridiculous, and occasionally both at the same time.

It Starts With a Question

Most POPZ flavours begin the same way:“What if…?”

What if soda tasted like your favourite childhood sweets?
What if something that shouldn’t work… actually did?

That’s how you end up with combinations like:

• Rhubarb & Custard

Flavours that sound a little unusual — until you try them.

Written by the POPZ Laboratory Team – a small but highly curious group of flavour experimenters, idea-makers and unapologetic rule-breakers working behind the scenes at POPZ.

Part soda makers, part storytellers, and part slightly mad inventors, the team spends its time exploring flavour combinations that most people wouldn’t even think to try. From childhood-inspired classics to completely unexpected creations, every idea starts the same way: with a simple question – “what if?”

The POPZ Laboratory isn’t your typical product development space. It’s a place where creativity is encouraged, where unusual ideas are taken seriously, and where the line between brilliant and ridiculous is often deliberately blurred. Some experiments are carefully crafted. Others are pure chaos. Both are equally important.

Every flavour that makes it into a POPZ can has been tested, debated and refined by the team and occasionally challenged by a very opinionated in-house critic (who may or may not be a penguin). If it doesn’t surprise, delight or spark curiosity, it doesn’t make the cut.

Beyond the lab, the team is responsible for shaping the POPZ world, from the stories you read here to the ideas that drive the brand forward. Their shared belief is simple: soda should never be boring.

And while not every experiment sees the light of day, one thing is certain – there’s always something new bubbling away in the POPZ Laboratory.
